Tomasz Mreńca
Tomasz Mreńca (b. 1986) is a composer, music producer, and violinist, recognized as one of the most distinctive figures in Poland’s ambient and experimental music scene. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, his artistic practice encompasses solo projects, collaborations with musicians and visual artists, as well as composing for theatre, film, and multimedia installations.
Mreńca’s work is characterized by a unique fusion of acoustic instruments, electronic textures, and contemporary sound production techniques. His compositions are often multilayered and expansive, combining instrumental performances with analog synthesizers, loops, and sound-processing effects. Cinematic and evocative in nature, his music remains deeply atmospheric and introspective.
His discography includes several critically acclaimed solo and producer albums, including Land (2016), Peak (2018), Echo (2021), Torn Soundscapes (2022), and Man Of The Light (2024). Particular recognition came with Echo, which earned a nomination for the prestigious Fryderyk Award in the Electronic Music category, further establishing his position within the contemporary ambient music landscape.
Mreńca actively collaborates with artists across the alternative, film, and theatre music scenes. His collaborators have included Hania Rani, Baasch, Daniel Spaleniak, and NOON, among others. In addition to his recording and performance work, he composes music for theatre productions, multimedia projects, and advertising campaigns, demonstrating remarkable versatility as a composer and producer.
His music stands out for its original approach to both form and sound, balancing elements of ambient, classical, and experimental music while maintaining a cohesive and highly personal artistic identity. This distinctive aesthetic has earned him recognition from both critics and audiences seeking innovative and uncompromising musical experiences.
Tomasz Mreńca has been nominated for the Fryderyk Award and is also a recipient of the WARTO Award presented by Gazeta Wyborcza. He received the Best Original Music Award at the Bucharest Film Awards for his score to Dreams of Lonely People. Films featuring his music have also received notable distinctions, including the Journalists’ Award at the Young and Film Festival in Koszalin for Howl (Skowyt), as well as the Special Jury Prize in the Short Film Competition at the Polish Film Festival for the same production.
