Jerzy Mazzoll

Considered one of the most interesting clarinetists in Poland (Jazz Forum) returns with his own music. Composer and songwriter, the first Polish bass clarinetist, creator of the jass genre, an outstanding improviser.

 

He uses both elements of classical and contemporary music in his playing; represents a line of jazz clarinetists: Goodman, La Porta, Giufree, Lacy(ss). He has collaborated with many outstanding figures of European jazz as a clarinetist and composer: Peter Brotzmann, Bogusław Schaeffer, Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Tomasz Stańko, Django Bates, Alfred Harth, Shoji Hano, Olga Szwajgier, Roscoe Mitchell, Fred Frith, Tony Oxley - the latter, a well-known drummer, produced Mazzoll’s album "Newborn" by the trio Perplex: Mazzoll - Chastka - Hölker, released in Western Europe.

 

Listeners know Mazzoll from albums released under his name, such as "Rozmowy s Catem" in cooperation with Kazik Staszewski, and they will certainly recognize the sound of his instrument on albums such as "12 groszy" by Kazik or titles released by Kury and Tymon Tymański. Jerzy Mazzoll is the author of music for avant-garde films and multimedia installations (Bolero, Point City, Midnight Shakespeare) in Poland, the Netherlands and Germany.

 

He also composed the music for the full-length feature film “Jutro będzie niebo”, dir. J. Marszewski and the documentary "Słowa jak ściany" about Małgorzata Hillar (TVP2).

 

In 2022 he released his latest album by Mazzoll "Być". It was composed and produced together with Michał Szturomski (Duchy, Afro Kolektyw). The cooperation of an experienced clarinetist with a musician of the young generation and a combination of classical music with electronic music resulted in an extremely beautiful album.
